Franz Pöchhacker is Associate Professor of Interpreting Studies in the Center for Translation Studies at the University of Vienna. He holds Master’s degrees in conference interpreting from the University of Vienna and from the Monterey Institute of International Studies and has been working freelance as a conference and media interpreter since the late 1980s. Following his doctoral research on simultaneous conference interpreting, he has also worked on community-based interpreting in healthcare and asylum settings as well as on general issues of interpreting studies as a discipline. He has published numerous articles and several books and is co-editor of the journal Interpreting.

Elisabeth Holub graduated from the Centre for Translation Studies, University of Vienna, with an MA in translation in 2007 and an MA in interpreting in 2009. She worked  in London, UK, spent one semester at the University of Bologna, Italy, and has been working as a freelance translator and conference interpreter for German, English and Italian. Her main research interest is prosody, and in particular intonation, in simultaneous interpreting.

Karin Reithofer graduated from the Department of Translation Studies, University of Graz, in 2003 with an MA thesis on defective source speeches in interpreting. In 2004 she completed a Masters in Conference Interpreting at the University of Westminster to then work as a teaching assistant at the Masters course in conference interpreting at Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj, Romania, with a grant of the European Parliament. Since 2006 she has been working as a freelance interpreter in Vienna and for the EU institutions with an accreditation for English, Italian, Spanish and Romanian.
Her research project focused on interpreting non-native speakers of English. Her PhD thesis was completed in 2011.

Sylvi Rennert graduated from the Center for Translation Studies, University of Vienna, in 2004 with an MA thesis on visual contact and non-verbal communication in simultaneous interpreting. After a year as teaching assistant at the EMCI course at the University of Turku, Finland, and work as a freelance interpreter and translator for German (A), English (B), Spanish (C) and Finnish (C), she was a staff interpreter and translator for the Vienna City Administration from 2006 to 2008. Her research project investigates the impact of fluency in simultaneous interpreting on comprehension.

Cornelia Zwischenberger graduated from the Department of Translation Studies, University of Graz, in 2005 with an MA thesis on quality in freelance conference interpreting. Her working languages as an interpreter and translator are German (A), Italian (B) and English (C). From 2005 to 2008 she worked as a German language lecturer for adults and teachers of German as a foreign language. She is also an accredited examiner for the Austrian German Diploma (ÖSD). She investigated professional conference interpreters’ views on quality and role-perception. Her PhD thesis was completed in 2011.
